Based on the information in The Neanderthal’s Necklace, answer the following questions:

 

Ø   Give a brief history of the evolution of hominids.

Ø   Discuss the anatomical characteristics of the Neanderthals.

Ø   What were the effects of the environment on the lives of hominids during the Ice Age.

Ø   What were the life expectancies for Neanderthals and what do the burials at Sima de los Huesos tell us?

Ø   Finally, discuss consciousness and language in both the Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons. Be sure to include tool technologies and artistic expressions.  Do you think the Neanderthals are an evolutionary dead-end (explain your answer)?
